ON the eve of his 54th birthday, Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes blew the candle on his cake at the end of the team's practice on Monday night.

There couldn't be a better way to end their fifth practice that featured a perfect attendance for the Fiba Asia Cup team at the Meralco Gym, with Calvin Abueva finally showing up after missing four practices.

"Of course, I'm very happy but not just Calvin, everyone came here for the first time. First time we got all twelve guys for the Fiba Asia Cup team," Reyes told reporters.

As pleased as he was to see the 12 brave men that will go to battle in the Beirut, Lebanon showpiece, Reyes couldn't help but wish they could have had the luxury of time to prepare.

"I really like what I'm seeing, but the problem is, we don't have that much time. Para tayong nagcra-cram for exams," he said.

"We are trying to put everything in just one or two days. We all know on Wednesday and on Friday may PBA games na naman. We are just taking advantage of what we have."

His birthday wish?

"You guys know what my birthday wish is. Every year it's always been the same thing, make the best representation possible for the country," he said.
