Venezuela scores squeaker as China goes winless in Fiba Stankovic Continental Champions Cup

VENEZUELA came up with a close 71-68 victory over China, who went winless in four games in the four-nation Fiba Stankovic Continental Champions Cup recently in Qingyuan, China.

New Zealand won first place as the Tall Blacks beat Mexico, 70-66.

Guo Ailun scored 20 points in a losing effort for the Chinese cagers.

The Chinese lost all four of their matches in the competition, bowing to Mexico (80-92) and Venezuela (72-82), with the closest defeat in the preliminaries coming against 2014 Fiba World Cup campaigner New Zealand (82-89).

The teams are using the Stankovic Continental Champions Cup as part of their preparations for their respective continental championships including China, which is out to bounce back in this year’s Fiba-Asia Championship after settling for fifth place two years ago in Manila.
