Carl Bryan Cruz glad to play for Philippines anew after three straight tournaments with Gilas

CARL Bryan Cruz is determined to get through the daunting international schedule, saying he is simply glad to be given the opportunity to continue playing for the country.

The Philippines is participating in the Fiba Asia Champions Cup, with Cruz, Kiefer Ravena and Raymar Jose retained from the Gilas Pilipinas squad that saw action in the Southeast Asian Games.

They are now set to play under the banner of Chooks to Go in the tournament opening on Friday in Chenzhou, China.

"Nakakapagod pero hangga't may opportunity, laban lang ng laban," said Cruz, who played with Gilas in the Jones Cup in Taiwan in July, followed by the Fiba Asia Cup in Lebanon before joining Jose and Ravena in the national squad in the SEA Games in Malaysia in late August.

"Tamang pahinga at pagkain lang. Being a pro, kailangan marunong kami magdala ng mga ganitong sitwasyon," said the former Far Eastern University standout.

As one of only three Gilas cadets from the KL lineup, Cruz is thrilled to help guide the team in the China tournament where they are likely to face Andray Blatche.

"Nag-usap kami nila Kiefer (Ravena) at Toto (Jose), kami na lang natira sa cadets from Malaysia," he said. "Dapat i-guide namin yung mga bago, kailanagan namin mag step up."
