BATANG Gilas coach Mike Oliver hoped for all out support from top Philippine schools in terms of lending their players to the next Fiba Asia Under-18 Championships in light of the team's current struggles.

Oliver bared in an interview with that the team had problems forming the best team possible for the Fiba Asia Under-18 tilt due to unavailability of players who failed to get the green light from their respective schools.

“We can only improve if we can convince all our schools to really support our youth program,” said Oliver.

With some of the players being eyed by the team not available for the Fiba Asia, the Batang Gilas cagers have struggled to make the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Following their stunning loss to Thailand, the Philippines regrouped to beat India to take the third seed in Group A.

Still, Oliver said the Fiba-Asia tournament this year has been a learning experience for the squad that is being led by former Fiba World Under-17 championship campaigner Jolo Mendoza.

“This has been a very important experience for my players. When you realize that there is somebody better than you, you will be motivated to keep on practicing and improving,” said Oliver.
