COACH Tab Baldwin believes that the Gilas cadets have their work cut out for them but had some good words for them after Ateneo’s win on Saturday in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup in San Juan.

"They lack size which is typical of any Filipino team. But they got some good kids, guys who want to do the right things. I admire wanting to play for the national team. I respect them a lot," said Baldwin.

"I think they're ok. They have a lot of work to do but they have a lot of young players so they should have a lot of work to do," he added.

He also vowed full support to the squad, with guys like Thirdy Ravena, Matt Nieto and Isaac Go also a part of the pool.

The trio haven't joined the pool full time but Baldwin said that it will all change after these players finish their school finals.

"I wish our guys could get in there more but right now our academics situation doesn't allow it with our finals coming up this week," Baldwin said.

"After finals I want them to be involved in the national team program."

A former national team coach himself, Baldwin understands the importance of player availability, particularly in this country where there always seems to be conflict in commitment.

"It's important. National team should come out first. In the Philippines we say that a lot but we dont really do that," said Baldwin. "I am proud of those kids who go out there and play for the flag and country."
