Andre Paras gave some much-needed manpower for Gilas with only eight players for the Fiba Asia Cup-bound team able to suit up as SMB, TNT, and Ginebra stars sat out. Jaime Campos

ANDRE Paras was a surprise participant as Gilas Pilipinas intensified its training for the Fiba Asia Cup on Tuesday at the Meralco Gym.

The eldest son of PBA great Benjie joined the drills in the two-hour training supervised by coach Jong Uichico as the team had near-complete attendance but saw some key players in street clothes.

Calvin Abueva, Gabe Norwood, Terrence Romeo, Raymond Almazan, Christian Standhardinger, Carl Cruz, Roger Pogoy, and Jiovani Jalalon were in attendance for the team bound for the Beirut, Lebanon showcase seven days from now.

Japeth Aguilar was the only one absent, while June Mar Fajardo and Jayson Castro also showed up but were in street clothes. The two face each other in the PBA on Wednesday while Aguilar will also suit up for Ginebra in the opener of the double-header against Kia. 

Fiba Asia team reserve Ed Daquioag was also present in the team's sixth practice. 

The team will train until Friday before leaving for Lebanon on Saturday. 

Meanwhile, Mac Belo, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., Almond Vosotros, Von Pessumal, Kevin Ferrer, Raymar Jose, Kiefer Ravena, Mike Tolomia, Fonzo Gotladera, and Kobe Paras were present for the Southeast Asian Games team.
