ALASKA is going the extra mile for Gilas Pilipinas as it is continues to lend Carl Bryan Cruz to the team as another warm body in practice ahead of the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Championship next month.

The Aces rookie forward and fellow Gilas cadets Kevin Ferrer and Mike Tolomia barely missed the cut for the final 12-man Gilas lineup for the May 12-18 showpiece in Manila.

Aces coach Alex Compton bared that national coach Chot Reyes has requested Cruz’s continued presence in practice.

“We will support that need whole heartedly,” Compton said on Tuesday, adding Cruz will miss the Aces’ game against Ginebra on Sunday. “We are committed to supporting Gilas.”

Two other cadets, Mike Tolomia of Rain or Shine and Kevin Ferrer of Ginebra, have also been added to the pool as practice players.

The Aces already released Calvin Abueva full time to Gilas, and now are doing the same to Cruz for the meantime.

“It is an honor for Bryan and opportunities like this don't come every day,” Compton said. “Being a practice player for Gilas is an honor and we are happy for Bryan and hope that Gilas makes the country proud.”
