A DAY after a mix-up over his status at Gilas Pilipinas, Calvin Abueva suddenly clammed up in practice as head coach Chot Reyes denied 'downing' some players in the selection of the team for the second window of the 2019 Fiba World Cup qualfiers.

Abueva still showed up for Gilas practice on Wednesday but became elusive for the few mediamen present, a day after his statement that he was back in consideration for Gilas matches against Australia and Japan was quickly refuted by Reyes.

The enigmatic Alaska star quietly ate his post-practice meal at the Meralco Gym before leaving without granting interviews.

Mediamen were kept off Gilas practice for the third straight day and security was extra tight on Wednesday, with security men guarding all entrance to the gym.

Mediamen were allowed to enter the gym after Reyes and most of the players were already gone.

Reyes, though, took to Twitter to air his frustration over criticism on social media over his handling of the Abueva issue, denying that he was 'downing' his own players.

"I dare you ask any Gilas player if they feel that," Reyes said. "You just dont know whats really going on inside, & how difficult our situation is."
