    NENAD Vucinic will handle Gilas Pilipinas for the third window of the 2023 Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers.

    Team manager Butch Antonio confirmed the news as the team laden with collegiate players began training on Wednesday.

    Vucinic, former head coach of the New Zealand national men’s basketball team, has served as an assistant to Chot Reyes since February and has recently been appointed as a part of Norman Black's staff in Meralco.

    Gilas will play New Zealand in Auckland on June 30 and India at Mall of Asia Arena on July 3.

    The Philippines is already qualified for the second round despite its 1-1 record in Group A.

    Gilas is hitting the reboot following its silver medal finish in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi.

    Thirdy Ravena, Dwight Ramos, Ange Kouame, SJ Belangel, Dave Ildefonso, Geo Chiu, Carl Tamayo, Justine Baltazar, RJ Abarrientos, William Navarro, and Francis ‘Lebron’ Lopez are again suiting up for the Philippines.

    Completing the squad are newcomers Rhenz Abando of Letran, James Spencer of University of the Philippines, Sherwin Concepcion of University of Santo Tomas, and Kevin Quiambao of La Salle.

    It remains uncertain whether Vucinic will coach Gilas in the 2022 Fiba Asia Cup in Indonesia next month.
