TROY Rosario and Paul Lee were not around as Gilas Pilipinas got ready to play Mighty Sports in a tune-up game on Monday at the Meralco gym.

Other than the two, all members of the national team training pool were on hand for the Filipinos' first competitive game in their buildup for the Fiba World Cup in China.

Also in attendance to watch the game were PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, Meralco coach Norman Black, and one-time Gilas member Alex Cabagnot.

Black was around to watch the progress of the national team and at the same time, see son Aaron play for Mighty Sports.

Ginebra import Justine Brownlee, a candidate for naturalization, later showed up to watch the game.

Mighty Sports, backstopped by former PBA imports Renaldo Balkman, Eugene Phelps, and Hamady Ndiaye, is also using the tune-up as part of its preparation for the annual Jones Cup.

Former Gilas Pilipinas coach Rajko Toroman called the shots for Mighty Sports in the absence of head mentor Charles Tiu.

Coach Yeng Guiao said Cabagnot just dropped by to also support his former national teammates.

But he was certainly grateful for the gesture of the veteran San Miguel Beer guard.

"Si Alex bumisita lang. But I appreciate his presence and support," said the Gilas coach. And to all those who had been to the Gilas program are always going to be part of the Gilas family actually."
