THE recent injury suffered by Matthew Wright unfortunately, could factor in his nclusion or not in the final 12-man roster of Gilas Pilipinas for the FIBA World Cup.
National coach Yeng Guiao stressed the final week of practice for the national team will be crucial to the team, which Wright is going to miss as he recovers from a sprained ligament on his ankle he suffered last Monday.
The injury also makes the Phoenix wingman doubtful for the two friendlies the Filipinos will play against the Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League (NBL) this Friday and Sunday.
As per the team’s medical advisory, Wright could miss the next three to four days of practice starting on Wednesday.
“Maybe somehow it will factor in kasi he will miss three to four days of practice. I don’t know if he can play the Australian games so medyo crucial,” said Guiao.
“I will talk to the coaching staff about it.”
The injury to Wright came a week before the team leaves for Foshan, China for the world meet.
“The problem is everyday is important so we’ll see what happens,” said Guiao.
Wright understands the situation, saying, “it’s unfortunate because we don’t have a lot of time.”
