THERE is nothing like playing for flag and country in international competitions.

And if he could turn back the hands of time, Marc Pingris is willing to don the Gilas Pilipinas jersey once again.

Ang dala mo yung bansa natin," said Pingris, who showed up at the Meralco gym Monday night to visit the national men's team in practice.

Kasi dito sacrifice talaga. Puso lang ang puhunan mo dito."

At 37 and having just recuperated from an ACL injury, Pingris said he's already retired from playing in the national team.

Kaya ako, retired na tayo bro," said the Magnolia veteran.

Pingris said its already time for the young ones to take over the Gilas program, the same exact reason cited by Jayson Castro on his decision not to play anymore for Gilas Pilipinas in the coming FIBA World Cup in China.

The native of Pozzorubio, Pangasinan said he can commisserate with Castro's situation and thinks people should respect the decision of the TnT Katropa guard to gave way to other players ready to answer the call of flag and country.

Kahit nga may injury naglalaro," said Pingris of Castro, who was a teammate of him when they played for Gilas in the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

Tumatanda. Kumbaga yung suporta dapat natin laging 100 percent."
