MARC Pingris and Mo Tautuaa believe it’s only a matter of time before Gilas Pilipinas 4.0 reaches its full potential as far as chemistry off the court is concerned.
The big men, who are usually the life of the party in the national team along with Ranidel de Ocampo, admitted the current pool hasn’t been as close as the Gilas 3.0 side that had jokers Asi Taulava and Gary David.
“So far, we’re getting along, but there isn’t like a combo like me and Asi where there’s a lot of crab talking going on,” Tautuaa said in a chat with Spin.ph, referring to his fellow Filipino-Tongan teammate. “You could see now that it’s more serious.”
“I don’t know if there are barriers or anything like that. It’s just the personality; the last team was more open and this one’s a little more closed,” the Tropang TNT big slotman admitted.
“It’s different, but I still like the feel,” he was quick to add.
Pingris echoed his fellow funnyman’s sentiments, saying the current pool, which has young newcomers Ray Parks and Kiefer Ravena, among others, is still in the feeling-out stage among themselves.
“Matagal na kasi kami magkakakilala nila Ranidel, Gary, Japeth, eh ngayon, marami din mga bagong dumating,” the Star big man said. “Siguro nagktaon na palabiro si Gary, palabiro ako, gandun din kami nila Ranidel, Asi.”
“Pero nagsismula pa lang naman mabuo yung chemistry namin (ngayon) eh,” he was quick to add. “Darating din kami dun. Kasi ganun rin naman yung dati eh – nag-start din kami sa kapaan.”
Pingris feels the bond will eventually be stronger once they embark on their European trip that will see them have stops in Greece and Italy.
“Sila Ray, hindi pa naman nila maibibigay kung paano ba yung ugali nila. Kami, kinakapa rin namin. hindi din namin agad binibigay,” Pingris explained. “Baka naman mamaya, maasar kasi hindi namin alam yung ugali ng isa’t-isa.”
“Pero alam ko darating rin kami dun,” he added. “I’m sure pag alis namin papuntang Greece at Italy, dun mabubuo lahat yan katulad ng ginawa namin sa Lithuania before.”
