MANILA Gilas bowed out of the Fiba 3x3 Shanghai Challenger 2018 on a whimper after losing both of its games on Friday.
The squad, made up of Jeff Viernes, Gab Banal, Trevis Jackson, and former GlobalPort import Jamal Thomas, went 0-2 in Pool C as the Ronnie Magsanoc-coached crew failed to advance to the next round.
The Philippine side immediately ran through a wall as it fell, 10-22 to reigning Fiba 3x3 World Tour champion Zemun of Serbia.
Manila Gilas, then, suffered a heartbreaking 20-21 loss to Vitez Ecos Romari, with the Bosnian crew escaping with the victory thanks to a free throw with 26 seconds left on the clock.
It was the first time the Philippines sent a team to the Fiba 3x3 World Tour since 2015, when Manila North, bannered by Calvin Abueva, Vic Manuel, Troy Rosario, and Karl Dehesa, finished sixth in the World Tour Final.
