MALAYSIA consoled itself with a dominant showing after falling short of a podium finish in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship as it overpowered Myanmar, 96-71, in its last game of the tournament on Thursday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Malaysians led from start to finish as they finished the regional showpiece with an even 3-3 win-loss record, good for fourth place behind Thailand, which claimed bronze after ending up with a 4-2 mark.
Liaw Chee Huei showed the way with 25 points, seven boards, five assists, and two steals, while Chin Zhi Shin had 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting, 13 boards, two assists, and two steals for the Malaysians, who led the Burmese by as many as 29 points.
The Burmese wound up winless in their six outings after struggling just to come up with close results in the tournament.
Crowd favorite Wana Aung was one of the few bright spots for the losing team as he fired a game-high 31 points, making all his three treys, along with three assists, and two boards in a losing effort.
