MAC Belo is officially out of Gilas Pilipinas for the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Championship.
The Gilas cadet informed head coach Chot Reyes on Monday night about the MRI result that revealed a meniscus tear on his left knee that needed surgery as soon as possible.
Belo said he could be likely out for four to six weeks including rehabilitation.
"Kailangan talagang tanggalin 'yung punit sabi ng doktor," said Belo shortly after the national team's practice at the Meralco gym.
"Kailangan ko magpalakas lalo so kailangan talaga ng time pa sa recovery."
The Seaba is slated May 12-18 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Belo admitted he’s been feeling there’s something wrong with his knee as early as the Philippine Cup, but only decided to see a doctor during the second conference when he felt he’s starting to lose the strength of his knee.
“Minsan kasi nawawala, minsan naman sumasakit,” said the power forward out of Far Eastern University.”So nung nilato ko this conferemce, doon ko na nararamdaman na nawawalan ng lakas (yung tuhod ko), so naag-decide na ako na magpa-MRI.
He admitted feeling down a bit after being told about suffering the same injury anew he sustained during his rookie Year with the Tamawars.
“Siyemrpre, unang-una down ako, kasi unang-unang enemy ng players is yung injury,” added Belo.
“Pero wala talaga. Kailangan kong tanggapin at gawing motivation para sa sarili ko na kailangan pang magpalakas talaga at mag-double effort sa strengthening.
It’s not the first time Belo went down with the same injury, saying he also suffered a meniscus tear –left knee - in his earlier days with the league.
“Kaya hindi na rin naman tayo bago na diyan. At least alam mo na uminit.
