Dominican Republic will be playing two preparation games against Canada and Spain in a pocket tournament in Granada, Spain.
They will open their campaign in the Fiba Basketball World Cup against Gilas Pilipinas on August 25 at the Philippine Arena.
In an interview with ESPN, Towns revealed one of the reasons for his decision to play for Dominican Republic is his mother, who passed away due to COVID-19 in 2020. Towns’ mother has Dominican Republic lineage.
“The timing is right. I didn't put as much stress on my body this last season because of the injury. I'm feeling great now, I'm 100 percent and feeling like myself again. It's a perfect time to work on some things in my game. And with my mom's passing, I felt an urgency to do it,” said Towns.
