MERALCO is tapping the services of towering Liam McMorrow as its other import for the coming FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
Team manager Paolo Trillo confirmed the Bolts have come to terms with the 31-year-old McMorrow, officially listed at 7-foot-2, who will be arriving in the country on Tuesday night.
The Canadian native previously suited up for Barako Bull and led the team to the playoffs of the 2015 PBA Governors Cup.
McMorrow joins two-time Best Import Allen Durham in leading the Bolts’ charges during the September 27 to October 2 meet in Nothanburi, Thailand that features top ballclubs in the Asian region.
“Aside from being big, he’s also quick and can run the floor, which is the type of import we need in this kind of tournament,” said Trillo.
McMorrow will have the benefit of a week to practice with Meralco before the team leaves on the 25th for the Thai capital.
It was a good thing the Bolts were able to convince McMorrow to reinforce the team since he’s currently trying out with various NBA teams at this time when training camps have begun.
“I think the plan was for him to return immediately to the U.S. after the FIBA Champions Cup and continue to tryout with NBA teams in their training camps,” added Trillo.
Following the official draw last week, Meralco has been bracketed in Group B along with reigning champion Al Riyadi of Lebanon, Alvark Tokyo of Japan, and Mono Vampire Basketball Club of the host country.
Group A meanwhile, will have Paulan Archiland of Taiwan, Liaoning Flying Leopards of China, SK Knights of Korea, and Petrochimi of Iran.
