MIES, Switzerland - Fiba on Thursday confirmed the shortlist of candidates to host the Fiba Basketball World Cup in 2023.
Russia and Turkey are the two nations submitting single-host bids and they will be up against a pair of bids consisting of multiple host countries.
The Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan are teaming up in an Asian bid while Americas’ neighbors and basketball fanatics Argentina and Uruguay make up the other.
However, Fiba has kept the door open until the end of August for other countries wishing to join in the bid process.
According to Fiba, the awarding of the hosting rights to the World Cup 2023 will be made by the Fiba Central Board during its end-of-the-year meeting.
The Fiba Basketball World Cup is breaking new ground in 2019, when it will be staged in China for the first time ever and features a record 32 teams.
