LA TENORIO will continue to fulfill his duties as Gilas Pilipinas Youth head coach in the FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup even after his appointment as head coach of Magnolia in the PBA.
Gilas program director Alfrancis Chua said they will discuss with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) the position that Tenorio assumed last November, months before taking on the PBA coaching job.

Chua said nothing is final yet on whether Tenorio will be replaced after the FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup to be held from August 31 to September 7 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia or will be asked to stay on.
The Mongolia tournament also serves as a qualifier for next year's FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup.
“’Yun ang pag-uusapan namin ng SBP. As program director, mag-uusap muna kami. Kailangan pag-usapan ‘yun kasi hindi naman hihinto ang PBA kapag youth [tournaments] lang. Baka puwedeng pag-usapan,” said Chua.

But for now, Tenorio will be guiding Gilas Youth in the Asia Cup after it qualified for the event via the SEABA tournament held in Pampanga last May.
In his first duty as head coach, Tenorio led Gilas Youth to a perfect 5-0 record in the preliminaries and defeated Indonesia, 70-40, in the title game.
