JAKARTA – Just like the Philippines, Korea also expressed readiness against the Filipino cagers in their quarterfinal match on Monday morning in the 18th Asian Games men’s basketball tournament at the GBK Basketball Hall.
Head coach Hur Jae said the Korean squad expects a tough match against the Philippines for a semifinal berth and a step closer to a podium finish in the quadrennial showpiece.
“They are a competitive team that competes extremely hard. Our team’s focus is to play our game and stick to the gameplan,” said Jae in an online interview through team interpreter Pablo Kim.
The match is scheduled at 10 a.m. (11 a.m. Manila time).
The Koreans will be leaning on naturalized player and former PBA import Ricardo Ratliffe against the Philippines, which is reinforced by NBA player Jordan Clarkson.
Jae emphasized the need to stick to their gameplan in order to contain Clarkson, who had 28 points in his debut for the Philippines against China last Tuesday.
“He is highly talented. As I mentioned earlier, we must stick to the game plan in order to guard him,” said Jae.
Jae also said Ratliffe will play a big role for Korea in the match against the Philippines.
“He is a key player on this team and has many weapons to help out the team,” said Jae.
