    Korea scales 'Great Wall,' end Chinese reign as Fiba-Asia U16 champions

    KOREA stunned China, 90-84, on Friday to make it to the gold medal match of the 2015 FIBA-Asia Under-16 Championship in Jakarta.

    The Koreans will play Chinese Taipei in the championship game after the Taiwanese edged out Japan earlier, 60-57, in the other semifinal pairing.

    Both teams have likewise secured berths in the next year’s FIBA U17 World Championship in Spain.

    But the Sokors’ win over the Chinese was definitely the stunner of the day as it ended the ‘Great Wall’s’ reign as champions for three straight editions.

    It likewise avenged the team’s lopsided 65-91 loss against the Chinese in the preliminaries.

    After going undefeated, China lost two of its final three games including a 72-78 upset at the hands of the Philippines in the second round.

    Chinese Taipei stayed unbeaten in the tournament with its victory over Japan, a 73-66 winner over Batang Gilas Pilipinas in the quarterfinals.

    China and Japan will battle each other for the bronze medal and the remaining seat in the world championship.

    The Philippines faces Lebanon for fifth place.
