THE Gilas Pilipinas team to the coming Jones Cup in Taipei just got a boost in firepower with the addition of Kobe Paras, Kiefer Ravena, and Fil-German Christian Standhardinger.
Paras and Ravena, fresh from representing the country in the Fiba 3x3 World Cup in Nantes, France, will be added to the team made up mostly of Gilas cadets for the annual Taiwan tournament set to unfold from July 15 to 23, according to Nelson Beltran of Philippine Star.
Also added to the team are fresh Gilas recruit Jaymar Jose and Standhardinger, a US NCAA veteran and now a pro player in Germany who is set to arrive next week.
TNT standby import Mike Myers, who practiced with Gilas on Thursday night, may also join the team as an import if Gilas officials can put him in the lineup as a late addition.
Already in the lineup are RR Pogoy, Jio Jalalon, Matthew Wright, Chris Tolomia, Ed Daquioag, Carl Bryan Cruz, Kevin Ferrer, Fonzo Gotladera and Von Pessumal.
Mac Belo is on the list but will unlikely play since he's recovering from knee surgery. Out of the lineup is San Miguel's Arnold Van Opstal, who hasn't shown up for Gilas training since the Seaba championships.
The Jones Cup, which Gilas last won in 2013, is expected to be the final test for Paras and Co. as head coach Chot Reyes prepares his lineup for the Southeast Asian Games in August.
The 6-6 Paras and Ravena arrived from France last Friday and are expected to join Gilas in training next week.
Gilas has yet to submit its lineup for the SEA Games.
The Taipei showpiece will have Gilas taking on tough teams like Iran, Korea, Japan, India, Iraq, Taipei A and B as well as club teams from Lithuania and Canada.
