KIEFER Ravena on Monday said he will continue to fight for his spot for Gilas Pilipinas even though head coach Yeng Guiao hinted his place with the national team in the Fiba Basketball World Cup is secure.
Ravena said he's under no assumption that he is already part of the final lineup of Gilas Pilipinas for the World Cup inspite of statements made by Guiao on Sunday.
Guiao indicated Ravena is the most logical choice to replace Jayson Castro, who will be skipping this year’s World Cup to spend more time with his family.
“When it comes from him, it’s a very big confidence booster,” said Ravena. “Sinabi niya ‘yun kagabi pero sinabi niya kanina na everybody is still fighting for that spot.
“I guess I just hold to that kung ano ‘yung pinakasinabi niya ngayon lang,” Ravena said.
Incidentally, Ravena’s first-ever game since the Fiba could come in China on August 31 when Gilas Pilipinas takes on Italy in the national team’s first outing in the Fiba Basketball World Cup since the PBA Governors’ Cup will open after the World Cup.
Ravena said he feels blessed with that possibility.
“Parang lamang pa ako dun sa palit na hindi ako nakapaglaro kasi hindi lahat ng tao nabibigyan ng chance na makapaglaro sa World Cup. Lumamang pa ako sa nakuha sa akin. Kumita pa kumbaga diba?”
“Very thankful ako. It’s a day-to-day experience for me. Take it a day at a time and learn from these guys and the coaching staff and enjoy every moment,” said Ravena.
