KIEFER Ravena and Kevin Alas both know Gilas Pilipinas will have its hands full against world No. 10 Australia in the2019 Fiba World Cup qualifiers and the two face an even bigger task with Gilas starter Jayson Castro and Jio Jalalon out injured.
Good thing both are riding a wave of good form at the moment.
“Yung Australia yun na muna ang focus namin ni Kiefer,” said Alas after finishing with a career-best 25 points in NLEX's win over Blackwater last Sunday. “The odds are against us kasi sa practice, di kami nakukumpleto, but we will do our best. Puso na lang talaga.”
Ravena, like Alas, also had a fitting sendoff for the Melbourne mission after dropping 23 markers in Sunday's win, assured the fans that Gilas will give it its best shot.
“We’re trying our best,” said Ravena. “But as coach Chot will always put into words, mahirap paghandaan yung team na kahit kami hindi handa eh.”
Ravena can only hope the element of surprise will work to their favor against the Boomers.
“I guess that’s one thing going our way, the element of surprise and the element of ‘Puso’ that will always be there for Gilas,” said the former Ateneo star.
