BATANGAS CITY – Looks like Kiefer Ravena’s spot in the Fiba Basketball World Cup is already secure.
National coach Yeng Guiao on Sunday hinted Ravena is guaranteed a spot in the Gilas Pilipinas team as a replacement for Jayson Castro in the Fiba Basketball World Cup in China in August.
“It’s almost a done deal doon sa slot ni Jayson,” Guiao told reporters after NLEX’s match against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday.
Pressed further, Guiao answered: “Sa akin kasi, as of now, he is the most logical choice to fill out the spot of Jayson.”
Castro begged off from taking part in Gilas Pilipinas for the 2019 Fiba Basketball World Cup to focus on family after playing for the national team for several years.
Ravena joins Gilas Pilipinas practice on Monday after getting Fiba clearance.
Guiao expressed confidence that Ravena will be getting himself back into his own self following an 18-month ban from engaging in basketball-related activities.
“He is going to be competitive and he is going to be ready for the World Cup,” said Guiao.
