LIKE a good soldier, Kevin Alas is just waiting in the wings if and when Gilas Pilipinas needs a warm body in training camp.
Just a phone call or text message would do.
“Anytime naman ako kung kailangan nila ng players, willing ako,” said the NLEX guard Wednesday following the PBA On Tour games.

The national team has been hit by the injury bug during its recent European training camp that reduced the training pool to 10 men, including naturalized players Justin Brownlee and Ange Kouame.
Sidelined due to injuries were point guards Scottie Thompson and Dwight Ramos, along with big man AJ Edu.
Alas, who’s been included as part of Gilas training pool in the past under coach Chot Reyes, is aware of the predicament facing the national team as it prepares for the FIBA World Cup.

“Lumiit yung point guard (rotation) kasi nga injured si Scottie and Dwight,” he said.
The guard out of Letran added he’s more than ready to come on board and practice with the team even if he doesn’t make the final lineup for the World Cup.
“Sa akin lang naman yung makatulong sa team kahit in practice lang,” he said.
So far, he hasn’t heard yet from the team or from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
“Wala pang notice,” was Alas’ curt reply when asked about it.
If no calls come his way, Alas already has a backup plan.
“Magbabakasyon na lang kami ni Selina,” he said, referring to his lovely wife, former courtside reporter Selina Dagdag-Alas.
