GILAS Pilipinas made do with who came on Saturday morning when it continued its preparations for the Fiba World Cup qualifiers.
Kevin Alas was the new face among only 11 players in attendance in another closed-door practice at the Meralco gym where the Filipino dribblers also went to the weights room for some strength building aside from court practice.
June Mar Fajardo, Jayson Castro, Troy Rosario, Gabe Norwood, Raymond Almazan, Calvin Abueva, Carl Cruz, Allein Maliksi, Mac Belo, and Matthew Wright were the standouts who showed up for the second straight day.
Alas, who has emerged from his shell under the fast-paced offense of Yeng Guiao at NLEX, and other top guards are in the frame for a spot in the Final 12 after Jio Jalalon was ruled out with a LCL injury.
Asked for his thoughts on the early part of their buildup, Fajardo polietely declined comment as per instructions from coach Chot Reyes.
“Bro, sorry hindi kita masasagot ngayon. Bawal daw kami muna magpa-interview. Pasensya na ha,” Fajardo said in a text message.
Japeth Aguilar, Roger Pogoy, and the injured Jalalon were absent this time after attending their first practice on Friday night.
Gilas takes a break on Sunday before returning on Monday with two practices.
