KARL-ANTHONY Towns and the Dominican Republic team touched down in Manila on Monday night for the 2023 Fiba Basketball World Cup.
Towns arrived with his team around 6:30 p.m., four days before their opening game in the Fiba Basketball World Cup against Gilas Pilipinas at the Philippine Arena.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star said he is looking forward to competing for Dominican Republic and making the country proud.


“The game of basketball is worldwide. I’m glad to be able to play with everybody in every country,” said Towns in an ambush interview with reporters shortly after their Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul touched down at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
“Just to play well. Make the country proud,” said Towns when asked about his expectations for the squad.
Towns also thanked the Filipino fans who have showed their support over the years.
“To all the Filipino fans, thank you for all the support. I’ve seen all the tweets of you guys over the years that you’ve done for me. I’m so happy to be here,” said Towns. "I always told all my Filipino fans I'll be here next year and this is that year."
