CHICAGO - With the next FIBA World Cup window quickly creeping around the corner, Gilas Pilipinas has a hole the size of a crater at the position.
Both Quentin Millora-Brown and Kai Sotto will be unavailable.
“QMB is out after back surgery in Japan. And so is Kai, officially. We’re told Kai is attending the NBA Summer League, which we are happy about. We’re supporting his road to the NBA,” Gilas head coach Tim Cone told me in a Tuesday night interview.

While Cone was extremely gracious in allowing me to interrupt his pre-PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals dinner, he politely declined to discuss potential player movements.
“We will be announcing the 12 players for the next window in a few days.”
Cone added that June Mar Fajardo had originally requested to sit out this July window, where Gilas will play road games against powerhouse sides Australia and New Zealand, as he considered having surgery.

But with QMB and Kai out, the nine-time PBA MVP graciously agreed, again, to rep the flag this August.
On Tuesday, Calvin Oftana also confirmed that he will undergo surgery on an infected toe right after TNT's PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals vs Barangay Ginebra.
