JUSTIN Brownlee is excited to play again after he has been cleared for action for Gilas Pilipinas in the first window of the Fiba Asia Cup 2025 qualifiers.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced on Saturday that Brownlee will be playing for the national squad after receiving a notice of charge from Fiba of a proposed three-month ineligibility which doesn’t prevent the naturalized player from suiting up in the two games of the February window.

“I can’t wait to play basketball again and put all of these behind me,” said Brownlee in a statement.
Brownlee has been out of action since he tested positive for carboxy-THC after Gilas Pilipinas captured the gold medal in the 19th Asian Games.
Barangay Ginebra took a conservative approach to the issue and decided not to field Brownlee during its PBA 48th Season Commissioner’s Cup campaign.
The three-month period of ineligibility is consistent with the sanctions given to similar cases where a banned substance were taken out-of-competition and not for performance enhancement.
Gilas Pilipinas taps Brownlee
Prior to the clearance, Brownlee was already included in the 12-man team by Gilas Pilipinas and Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone that will compete in multiple Fiba windows. Part of the pool includes Ginebra teammates Scottie Thompson and Jamie Malonzo.
June Mar Fajardo, Chris Newsome, CJ Perez, Calvin Oftana, Dwight Ramos, AJ Edu, Carl Tamayo, Kai Sotto, and Kevin Quiambao are also included in the pool.
