JUNE Mar Fajardo played limited minutes for Team Pilipinas in their game against Qatar due to an illness.
The five-time PBA MVP only played for three minutes and missed his only shot of the game in Team Pilipinas’ 84-46 victory over Qatar in the Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers.
“June Mar Fajardo tried to play the game but he was sick,” national coach Yeng Guiao bared during the postgame press conference. “That’s the reason why I didn’t play him longer minutes.”
With Andray Blatche leading Gilas’ frontcourt, Guiao said he preferred to sit Fajardo. Blatche went on to finish with 17 points and 15 rebounds for Team Pilipinas against Qatar.
“He tried to suit up and played for a few minutes but I felt that with the way the game was going, it wasn’t really necessary for us to use him,” said Guiao.
Guiao though hinted the possibility that Fajardo will be able to play for Gilas’ next game against Kazakhstan on Sunday.
“We will just preserve him for the next game,” Guiao said.
