Oct 2, 2018

JOSH Reyes is out of the Batang Gilas program.

In the latest twist in what has been an organizational overhaul at the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), the son of multi-titled coach Chot Reyes has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the national youth team.

Sources closely following the situation bared the news, with the SBP looking for a fresh start and a new face to be installed to the post.

Tiebreaker Times was the first to report the development.

Reyes joined the national youth team program as an assistant to head coach Mike Oliver for the 2018 Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship in Foshan, China and in the 2018 Fiba Under-17 World Cup in Argentina.

He was then elevated to the head coaching post soon after, calling the shots for the Batang Gilas squad in the 2018 Fiba Under-18 Asian Championship in Nonthaburi, Thailand, where the Philippines finished fourth.

SPIN.ph has sought confirmation from SBP officials, but they have yet to respond as of posting time.

Batang Gilas is about to start its preparations for next year's competitions, mainly the Fiba Under-19 World Cup in Heraklinon, Greece from June 29 to July 7 next year, and the 2019 Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship.

Curiously, Reyes was also one of the assistant coaches TNT let go in its revamp in the ongoing 2018 PBA Governors' Cup that led to the assumption of Bong Ravena to head coach and Mark Dickel to assistant.
