AFTER a long, up-and-down journey, Jordan Clarkson is finally ready to play for the Philippines in the 2018 Asian Games.
The Fil-American guard has been given the green light to play for the national team in the Indonesia showpiece as Asiad organizers again bent backwards after a last-ditch appeal by the Philippine contingent.
Just two days after Clarkson's wish to play in the Asiad was pronounced dead when the NBA turned down the request, the Philippines bid got a new lease on life following news that the NBA's decision was being appealed by PH officials.
Shortly after, Philippine officials in Indonesia, including assistant chef de mission Robert Bachmann, confirmed to SPIN.ph that the Olympic Council of Asia and Asiad organizers allowed Gilas to re-enter Clarkson in the lineup.
"Cleared na. Got the green light," Bachmann said from Indonesia.
SPIN.ph was also furnished a signed document from Indonesia designating Clarkson as the flag-bearer for the Philippine contingent in the opening ceremonies.
SBP officials have yet to make a formal announcement on the issue.
