As the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) builds a new foundation for the men's basketball team, Lastimosa's name emerged as possibly the next team manager of Gilas.

With Cone the top candidate to become the coach of the national team, Lastimosa coming on board meant reliving the successful partnership that produced nine PBA championships with the defunct Alaska franchise.
Lastimosa kept mum about the matter when asked about it.
But the PBA great recently gave up his coaching job at TNT to pave the way for the return of Chot Reyes, although he retained his job as team manager of the Triple Giga.
Now it appears he'll also have his hands full managing the Gilas team.
San Miguel Corporation (SMC) sports director Alfrancis Chua previously served as team manager of the national team, with PBA commissioner Willie Marcial as his deputy during the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China where Gilas regained the basketball gold after 61 long years.
