JEFF Chan is using the five-day break given to Rain or Shine and Alaska players by Gilas coach Tab Baldwin to recover from the groin injury he suffered in the Painters' title-clinching win in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals.

After the victory dinner that followed the team’s 109-92 victory over Alaska in Game Six on Wednesday night, Chan went straight to a hospital to have the injury checked.

Mega-agent Charlie Dy of Virtual Playground Co. who represents Chan, said the deadly Rain or Shine gunner will need to undergo therapy for a week as per doctor's advice.

“But Jeff felt a little improvement naman,” he said.

Although hurting a bit, the 32-year-old pride of Bacolod vowed to report to Gilas practice next week, when he, Paul Lee, Gabe Norwood, and Calvin Abueva rejoin the national team ahead of the Manila leg of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

“Siyempre, gusto ko ring maglaro sa Gilas. Gusto rin nating makasama sa team,” said the shooting guard out of Far Eastern University, who was part of the Gilas 2.0 team which competed in the 2013 Fiba Asia Championship in Manila and the 2014 Fiba World Cup in Spain.

Chan said he suffered the injury while going for a basket during the final game of the best-of-seven title series last Wednesday.

“Pag lay-up ko, biglang may nag-pop kaya medyo sumakit,” he said.

The injury somehow shortened his stint on the playing court. He eventually finished with eight points (on 3 of 9 shooting) and two rebounds, but good enough to win his second PBA championship in four years with Rain or Shine.
