BOCAUE — JACK Danielle Animam could not hold back her tears, overjoyed as she was over the outpouring support the Perlas Pilipinas squad got in Day One of the 2018 Fiba 3x3 World Cup on Friday.
Humbled by the cheers the squad got in games against Netherlands and Germany in Pool D action, the 6-foot-1 center broke down recalling the 'amazing' support from the home fans at the Philippine Arena.
“Grabe yung reaction ng crowd. Siguro that was the best part. We live for that moment and it was so amazing,” she said. “Sobrang sarap lang sa feeling kasi yung paghihirap namin meron palang nakaka-appreciate.
"Sana hinihiling ko sa lahat na sana mas suportahan pa nila kami kasi ito talaga yung kailangan nating lahat.”
Animam, the UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball MVP, felt that the Filipinas held their ground in the two losses.
“Pansin niyo na 'yung Netherlands, yung first minute of the game, we’re tied so hindi nila na-expect na ganun kami maglaro. Ito namang Germany, alam ko kinabahan sila sa amin na we could beat them,” she said.
The team's lack of experience showed in the end, she rued.
“It’s a matter of experience. They’re better than us because they have a lot of experience, so that’s what we need, more exposure pa,” the 19-year old said.
Animam added: “We've been into championships, but this is different. You're up against the best in the world, so we need that exposure and experience so that we can be in their level. Kasi minsan, even though we're good, the other team is more experienced.”
