ITALY has announced its 16-man extended roster for the 2023 Fiba Basketball World Cup with Utah Jazz cager Simone Fontecchio leading the team.

Fontecchio will also be spearheading a squad that has eight more players that were included in last year’s Eurobasket campaign that ended with a quarterfinal overtime loss against France.
The Italians will be facing Gilas Pilipinas on August 29 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Fontecchio could be in line to face Jordan Clarkson in Group A of the tournament after being teammates with the Jazz during his rookie season.
Also in the extended roster are former NBA players Nicolo Melli and Luigi Datome, Achille Polonara, Alessandro Pajola, Nico Mannion, Stefano Tonut, Marco Spissu, and Giampaolo Ricci, all of which saw action in the Eurobasket.
Guglielmo Caruso, Matteo Spagnolo, Gabriele Procida, Mouhamet Diouf, Riccardo Visconti, and Luca Severini are also in the roster.
Italy will not have Orlando Magic cager Paolo Banchero after choosing to represent Team USA in the World Cup.
