IRAN is parading one of its young stars in Mohammad Amini for Window 4 of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers where a game against Gilas Pilipinas is part of the schedule.
Amini, a 6-foot-8 guard, is coming off a stint with the Boston Celtics in the NBA Summer League last July before being called up by Team Melli, as per report by FIBA and announcement from the Iran Basketball Federation.
The 21-year-old Amini is playing professional ball in France with SLUC Nancy Basket, a club whose notable former members include former NBA players Nicolas Batum and Mickael Pietrus. He also won a French League title in 2024 with AS Monaco.

Amini also helped Iran reach the third-place game of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 where he averaged 14.6 points and 5.8 rebounds. Iran eventually won the bronze even with Amini out due to a knee injury.
Amini is expected to boost Team Melli despite the injury to former Meralco EASL import and FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Mythical Five winner Sina Vahedi, who suffered an ACL injury last March.
