YENG Guiao said he appreciated the efforts of Robert Bolick, CJ Perez, and Stanley Pringle who he said volunteered to help Gilas Pilipinas prepare for the coming FIBA World Cup in China.
Bolick, Perez, and Pringle showed up at the Meralco gym on the night Kiefer Ravena made his highly awaited basketball comeback following an 18-month suspension meted by FIBA for use of banned substance.
Guiao said the trio came to the practice voluntarily, with Bolick and Perez given the invitation to become part of the training pool after sending feelers they want to practice with Gilas Pilipinas.
"We emphasized in the practice that everything here is voluntary. Nobody is being forced to play for the national team," stressed Guiao.
"This is out of their own volition, out of their own desire to serve the country. All of these guys have mother teams and they love their mother teams as much as they love their other commitments that they have. But they are still here. Nandito pa rin sila."
