WHILE LA Tenorio was relegated to the unrestricted free agent with rights to salary list by Barangay Ginebra to focus on his duties with Gilas Pilipinas Youth as its head coach, Gabe Norwood won’t be going through the same process.
Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao said Norwood will remain in the Elasto Painters’ active roster for the duration of the FIBA Under-16 Cup SEABA qualifiers from May 24 to 30.

But Guiao said the team has the full support to Norwood in his role as assistant coach of Gilas Pilipinas Youth as they have allowed him to join them during the SEABA tournament to be held in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Norwood will return to Manila for Rain or Shine’s May 28 for its game against Phoenix at the Philsports Arena.
“Inexcuse namin siya. Ang arrangement namin, he goes to practices, he goes to the games pero kapag ang game nila, nag-conflict sa game namin, priority niya ‘yung game [Rain or Shine],” said Guiao.
“But otherwise, inaallow namin kasi development naman niya ‘yun,” added the former head coach of Gilas Pilipinas.
The 40-year-old Norwood is part of the staff of Tenorio, who was appointed as head coach of Gilas Pilipinas Youth last November.
Incidentally, Norwood is playing a larger role with Rain or Shine this conference, being a starter and seeing major minutes in all their games in the Philippine Cup, thus far.
Tenorio takes a break from his Barangay Ginebra duties with his relegation to the UFA with rights to salary list with Jayson David being activated.
Tenorio will now shift his attention to Gilas Youth’s bid to claim one of the two spots for Southeast Asia in the FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup set in Mongolia.
