GILAS Pilipinas head coach Yeng Guiao appreciates the willingness of guys like Chris Ross and Asi Taulava to lend a hand to the national team training.
However, he no longer finds the need to invite more players at this point of the team's preparation for the 2019 Fiba World Cup.
"Hindi na tayo magdadagdag muna. Kung sino yung nasa pool natin, yun na muna," he said, referring to the 19 players in the World Cup pool he submitted to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) last week.
Guiao explained that in the case of Ross, his availability as a practice player for Gilas will be timed with the availability of San Miguel teammates and Gilas pool mainstays June Mar Fajardo and Marcio Lassiter.
By that time, there will be no need for more practice players, Guiao explained.
"Hindi tugma eh. Dahil kung pwede na si Ross, pwede na rin si June Mar at Marcio," he quipped.
Christian Standhardinger, the third Beermen included in the pool, is considered a naturalized player but has yet to attend the Gilas trainings.
The fiery mentor, though, isn't closing the door on Ross, Taulava, and other players who are willing to lend a hand to the national team, more so with the 2019 Southeast Asian Games fast approaching.
"Baka sa mga susunod na sila. Baka pwede sila sa SEA Games. We'll see," he said.
