    Guiao's Asiad-bound PH team hits the ground running

    Almost all the players called up for the Asian Games-bound national team showed up in the first night of training.

    THE Philippine national team bound for the 2018 Asian Games began practices on Monday night at the Meralco Gym.

    All except two from the 14-man line-up for the Asiad were present in the first night of practice led by Rain or Shine players Gabe Norwood, Chris Tiu, James Yap, Beau Belga, Maverick Ahanmisi, and Raymond Almazan.

    Also in attendance were PBA players Paul Lee, Stanley Pringle, Asi Taulava, Poy Erram, and Don Trollano, and Gilas cadet Kobe Paras.

    Christian Standhardinger of San Miguel was not present perhaps due to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, while Ricci Rivero was expected to catch up in training.

    Even though he is not in the 14-man pool, Abu Tratter joined the practice presided over by Yeng Guiao and deputy Caloy Garcia.

      Before practice began, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Ricky Vargas, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio, Rain or Shine owner Raymond Yu, and Guiao spoke to the team in a closed-door meeting.

      The Nationals began practices just a day after the SBP announced it has reconsidered its decision not to send a Philippine team in the Asian Games in Indonesia.

      The squad will leave for Jakarta on August 14 before plunging to action on August 16.
