TROY Rosario and Raymond Almazan are still part of Team Pilipinas for now as Team Pilipinas started its buildup for the sixth and final window of the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers.
National coach Yeng Guiao said won't make any decision on both Rosario and Almazan and their places in the 14-man pool until he gets an assessment from doctors on their injuries.
“’Yung kay Almazan, bukas meron siyang check-up sa doctor,” said Guiao after speaking to the two big men during Monday’s practice and orientation at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. “Si Troy, day-to-day.”
Rosario suffered a broken nose during a tune-up game against NLEX last December while Almazan sustained a sprained ankle during practice, forcing him to miss Rain or Shine’s opener against NLEX.
“’Yung dalawang ‘yun, may issue pa sa health nila. It will take a day or two to resolve that because they will consult with their doctors,” said Guiao.
Rosario, though, participated in Gilas’ light training on Monday, joining the team in a shootaround while wearing a protective mask.
Almazan showed up in street clothes.
Guiao, however, said Rosario is in high spirits and even plans to play for TNT in Wednesday’s PBA Philippine Cup game against NLEX.
“I think nag-iisip siya maglaro on Wednesday against us,” Guiao said.
“Sabi ko, wag na siya maglaro against ust. Magpahinga na lang siya. Baka magkaproblema siya sa national team,” added Guiao in jest.
