JUSTIN Brownlee could be out for a lengthy period of time, based on the multiple injuries that Gilas Pilipinas' naturalized player has been dealing with that forced him to sit out against Australia in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) revealed that Brownlee has a hamstring strain and peroneal tendinopathy on his right leg as well as swelling and cartilage defects on the left knee that will prevent him out of the Boomers tie in Perth.

The SBP did not disclose a timeline on when Brownlee’s injuries would heal but it could take a while, based on online resources.
For example, recovery from cases of peroneal tendinopathy alone ranges from six to 12 weeks for mild cases, to several months if surgery is needed.
With Brownlee’s injuries, his stints with Barangay Ginebra in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup, and even Gilas Pilipinas in the next window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers and the 20th Asian Games could be in doubt.
Barangay Ginebra will open its Governors’ Cup campaign on July 19 against Phoenix Super LPG.

The next FIBA window will be in August, while the Asian Games is set from September 19 to October 4 in Nagoya, Japan.
Brownlee played on Friday against New Zealand, but he only scored five points and was held to three shots by a rugged Tall Blacks defense in the 106-102 double overtime Gilas defeat in Auckland.
Prior to the game against the Kiwis, Brownlee didn't play in the two friendly matches against New Zealand club teams coming off Ginebra's win over TNT in a PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals that went the distance.
