THE door to a berth in the FIBA 3x3 World Cup remains open for Gilas Pilipinas women’s team after topping its pool in Saturday’s qualifiers at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.
The quartet of Kacey Dela Rosa, Afril Bernardino, Mikka Cacho, and new member Reynalyn Ferrer dropped its initial assignment against Brazil, 16-13, but came back and nipped the host team, 21-19.
One last shot for Gilas Women
The Singaporeans then stunned Brazil, 15-13, to create a three-way tie in Pool B.
But the Filipinas and Singaporeans advanced to the semifinal round after ending up with total score of 34 points each.
Brazil finished with a 29 total and was eliminated.
The Philippines, fresh from a historic silver medal finish in the 3x3 Asia Cup in Singapore last week, will take on Pool A no. 2 seed Lithuania in Sunday’s semis, while Singapore will meet Pool A top seed Hungary.
Lithuania is ranked no. 22, while Hungary is no. 13.
Winners of the two semis pairings will earn outright berths to the 3x3 World Cup in Warsaw, Poland on June 1-7.
The losing teams still have a chance of making the World Cup as they dispute the third and final berth to the Warsaw meet.
