GILAS Pilipinas Women was at the wrong end of a 80-58 beatdown by South Korea, on Friday to go down to their second defeat in the 2025 William Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan.
The Philippines had little answer to the South Korea squad that is the reigning bronze medalist in the 19th Asian Games in 2023 and the fifth-placer in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup of the same year.
The Koreans raced to a 26-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and the Filipinos never recovered.
Gilas fell to 1-2 following its 83-66 win over Thailand last Thursday. It also lost to host Chinese Taipei, 85-59, in the opener.
The Philippines was led by University of California-San Diego product Sumayah Sugapong who had 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Jack Animam had 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Ella Fajardo chipped in 11 points for Gilas Women, who will face league-leader Japan Universiade Training Team after the tournament takes one day off.
Isaem Choi had 23 points and Jihyun Park added 17 points and seven rebounds for South Korea.

Both the Philippines and South Korea will be in action in the coming FIBA Women's Asia Cup, but the two squads are playing in different groups with the Philippines in Group B with Japan, Australia, and Lebanon, while Korea is in Group A with China, New Zealand, and Indonesia.
