GILAS Pilipinas Women found itself on the wrong side of a romp by world No. 7 Canada, 85-38, on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time) in the FIBA Women’s Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2026 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Philippines mustered only four points in the opening period against a formidable Canadian side to lose its second straight game in the pre-Olympic qualifiers following its 61-58 defeat to Mexico.
The Filipinas also scored just seven points in the second quarter, then nine points in the final frame in the defeat that booted them out of contention for one of the two semifinal berths in Group B.
Mexico defeated Senegal, 79-65, in the other group stage game to join Canada on top of the Group B team standings to officially eliminate winless Gilas Women even with one more game to play.

Jack Animam was the lone double-digit scorer for the Philippines with 11 points, while also contributing seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Vanessa De Jesus had nine points, five rebounds, and four assists, but conceded seven turnovers.
The Filipinas will try and close out their campaign on a high against likewise winless Senegal on Thursday (Friday, Manila time).
Syla Swords had 15 points and Jasmine Bascoe had 10 points for the Canadians.
