GILAS Pilipinas Womens outlasted New Zealand, 11-9, to advance to the semifinals of the 2019 Fiba 3x3 U-18 Asia Cup Saturday in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
Ella Fajardo found her range as she led the Filipinas with five points. Angel Surada was also feisty with her drives, helping the Philippines erect a 7-3 lead.
Ella Jade Bradley and Emillia Shearer brought New Zealand back in the game, 7-6, and set up the nip-and-tuck battle.
Fajardo drilled a freebie with 1:08 remaining before Surada scored on an undergoal stab that gave Gilas Womens a three-point breathing room, 11-8, with 33.8 seconds left.
New Zealand refused to fold, with Helen Marion Matthews putting her side within two in the final 21.4, but her late deuce could not find the bottom of the net as time expired.
Surada added four points, while Camille Clarin scored two.
The Philippines face Australia in the semifinals.
Bradley topped New Zealand with five.
