GILAS Pilipinas Women completed a sweep of the Fiba Under-18 Women’s Asia Cup Seaba qualifiers on Sunday after beating Indonesia, 73-37, in Ratchaburi, Thailand.
The Gilas Women team captured all three games of the competition to win the title while also earning a spot in Division B of the Fiba Under-18 Women’s Asia Cup tournament proper to be held in Shenzhen, China.
Alicia Margarett Villanueva topscored for the Philippines in the rout over Indonesia with 13 points while also hauling 10 rebounds.
Aubrey Lapasaran had eight points, eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals, while Gabby Ramos had eight points and seven rebounds in Sunday’s win.
Gilas Women coached by Julie Amos began the tournament with a 103-58 victory over host country Thailand on Friday.
Villanueva dominated the game off the bench, hitting 25 points on 4-of-5 shooting from threes. Naomi Panganiban and Ramos chipped in 16 points apiece for Gilas.
The Philippine U-18 team also beat Malaysia, 100-68, in the second game last Saturday.
Ramos exploded for 29 points and 19 rebounds, as team captain Ava Fajardo also contributed with 14 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.
